To plant a garden is to believe in tomorrow. This illustration is inspired by the work of Algerian artist Baya Mahieddine. Baya’s work depicts a joyful and powerful community of women in colourful clothes and exuberant scenes. Her magical world is filled with lush trees, fruits, birds, butterflies, pottery, and musical instruments. The women she paints are confident and very feminine with big eyes lined in khôl and prominent curves. Her subjects are not only comfortable in their femininity but freed by it.
